AVV Millennium Calisthenics Club
JULIA RUSSO - JUNIOR 2 COCOACH
I started calisthenics in 2002 and am still competing now as a senior, this year being my 18thyear as a competitor. I have been very lucky to have had some amazing coaches and role models throughout the years who have shared with me the love of this sport as well as many life lessons!
I started assisting teams when I was 12 years old and officially coaching in 2015. Since then I have taken on the Junior 2 (2015) and Intermediate team (2016) at Seaton Calisthenics both at Div 1 level gaining great results, including the overall Junior Team 2 aggregate in 2015 with co-coach and mentor Tracey Bettens. I have been coaching at AVV for 3 years teaching Sub-Junior and Junior level and assisting the 2019 Intermediate team.
Over the years I have competed in Champ/Div 1 competitions as well as at the Ballarat Royal South Street competitions, I started competing in Solo and graceful comps as a senior. I also competed in dance troupes at AVV doing various styles and going to Showcase Nationals in Queensland in 2016-2017. Calisthenics has always been a massive part of my life but my other passion is health and fitness.
I have also completed my Bachelor degree in Human Movement and a Cert III in fitness, which helped me further my knowledge about physical activity, health and wellbeing. I love the fact that I can use this knowledge and combine it with my Cali lessons because I think it is very important for every Cali girl to know the benefits of general fitness and health and how much it can improve their performance and strength.
I am very excited to be coaching the 2020 Junior 2 team with Mrs Mardi, it is a privilege to be surrounded by such an inspiring coaching team to look up to and can’t wait for the year ahead at AVV!
