AVV Millennium Calisthenics Club
KELLY KRIEG - PRESIDENT
I started my calisthenics journey at the age of 5 at Carisbrook Calisthenics Club but quickly moved onto Gleneliz where I was taught by Glenys Anderson and then Anna Tinker-Casson for 16 years, competing at Champ/A Grade Level every year. I was selected in the inaugural South Australian Sub-Junior National Team in 1988 with Helen Broad and from there competed in a further four South Australian National Teams, being the first calisthenics member in South Australia to be selected and compete in all four age groups at National level. I competed in four SA Senior Championship Teams competing at Royal South Street and fortunate enough to perform my Graceful Girl in each year in Ballarat. A highlight of my State Team years was winning the aggregate with Karen Darby in Inters, 1995.
I was a finalist in the CASA Graceful Girl Competitions every from 1989, with 1994 being a highlight when I gained 2nd Place in the 1994 Intermediate Final. I was also lucky enough to compete in the National Graceful competition in 1992 as a Junior in Darwin. I have competed in many Solo & Duo Competitions over these years and completed my Calisthenics Skill Bronze & Silver Medals with Honours with Distinction in 1996 & 1998.
I began coaching in 1996 under Glenys’ watchful eye and taught many girls and age groups, with the Gleneliz Junior Team being my main focus throughout the late 1990s & early 2000s.
After a number of years away from calisthenics to start my family, I came to AVV Millennium in 2016 as a member of the Masters Team. In 2018 we competed at the Pan Pacific Masters Games very successfully, coming away with 3 Gold & 2 Silver Medals! These years in the Masters Team has reignited my passion for calisthenics, as well as forming many new friendships and reacquainting with some old friends.
I learnt so much of my calisthenics foundation from Glenys and the years at Gleneliz, where I am a proud Life Member. Calisthenics teaches us many lessons and Club loyalty is one that I hold close to my heart. I love the camaraderie that comes with our sport and thoroughly enjoyed coaching our stunning Intermediates in 2020!
